KIRTAN: CHANTING of ANCIENT MANTRAS

Chanting is a meditation technique that helps us reconnect with the silence and the inner presence of peace, bringing us back to the source; the infinite state of our true Self.

Through the repetition of the divine names, we are able to still the mind and slowly uncover what is inside of ourselves, underneath our thoughts and emotions, and experience the field of pure being and awareness that is always present.

The more we practice and keep coming back to the mantra, the easier it gets to let go of our thoughts and allow the emotions to gently pass through and dissolve. We develop the ability to watch the thoughts as they come and go with less judging and without getting caught up in them.

At The Yoga Flat we host kirtans on a regular basis.

Shree Iyer is visiting Copenhagen from his residence in Barcelona. This Kirtan lover hails from a family of devotional musicians from India and specializes in Harmonium, Asian percussion instrument Morchang and singing Kirtan and other Hindu chants in Carnatic (South indian) and Hindustani (North Indian) Classical Music Ragas.

Shree offers the possibility of teaching this music in a practical way (adapted to Western nomenclature) to understand the Indian music system better for its spiritual application.

This evening Shree is teaming up with Albin Correya. Albin is a Music Technology professional with experience in working with several music computational companies like Deezer. Apart from producing music and being a mixing engineer, he plays several percussion instruments from Drums, Djembe, Darbuka and Tabla.
